HP Pursues $1.7 Billion from Mike Lynch's Estate Following Yacht Tragedy
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has filed a claim for $1.7 billion against the estate of Mike Lynch, the late founder of Autonomy, who died in a yacht accident last year. The tech giant alleges that Lynch and his former CFO misrepresented Autonomy’s financials when HPE acquired the company in 2011. The claim follows a 2022 court ruling that found HPE suffered losses of approximately £700 million from the acquisition. HPE’s legal team argues that Lynch’s estate should pay $1.7 billion, including $761 million in interest, while Lynch’s representatives claim the interest amount is excessive. The case, which has been ongoing since 2019, has now reached a critical stage as the court considers whether to allow an appeal against previous rulings.
